Shamash)
• One entry per family
• All entries are due by December 2, 2026 at 8:00 PM

Chanukah, also spelled Hanukkah or Chanukkah, is a joyful eight-day celebration of light, resilience, and Jewish identity. The name “Chanukah” means “dedication” in Hebrew and commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrian army in 165 B.C.E. and the subsequent liberation and rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem.
Today, Chanukah is celebrated in homes and communities by lighting the chanukiyah, adding one candle each night as the holiday unfolds. We gather with family and friends, sing Chanukah songs, play games like dreidel, and enjoy traditional foods, including crispy latkes and sweet jelly doughnuts.
Chanukah reminds us that even in challenging times, a small light can shine brightly. It is a celebration of courage, perseverance, and the enduring strength of Jewish tradition.
